Sharp Microelectronics Introduces New Line of Single- and Dual-Channel High Speed Photocouplers in S08 Packages
New package permits further miniaturization, saves board space,
and reduces component count
CAMAS, Wash. – Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas
has added a new family of high speed S08 Photocouplers to its broad line of
Photocoupler and Isolated Driver devices. The new product line includes 1Mbit/s,
15Mbit/s, and 25Mbit/s devices in single-channel models, and 10Mbit/s devices in
both single- and dual-channel models. Each of the new Photocouplers utilizes the
industry standard footprint, while incorporating optimal noise immunity, higher
heat resistance, and improved isolation characteristics.
The S08 Photocoupler products offer engineers a smaller, thinner package in a
true surface mount configuration. Using the dual-channel S08 package also helps
reduce board space and component count, as well as the number of placements
during manufacturing. These attributes, coupled with its compact package size,
make this line of S08 Photocouplers ideally suited for applications designed in
North America where surface mount 8-pin packages have become a standard
size. This includes applications such as plasma display panels, digital
audio amplifiers, power supplies, digital field bus, ground isolation in
high-speed logic and more.
Advantages of Sharp’s Photocouplers
include:
High Common Mode Rejection (CMR) achieved through the implantation
of OPIC detector design;
Superior isolation voltage and higher heat resistance. This is particularly
important during the new higher temperature soldering profiles required for
lead-free soldering;
Low input current, resulting in power savings, high efficiency, and high
noise immunity; and
Safety standard approvals and non-safety standard approvals available upon
request.
In addition to these S08 devices, Sharp has also developed a new
multifunction Photocoupler (part number PC925L0NSZ0F) for inverter high speed
MOS-FET/IGBT drive. With 2.5A output, this device can be designed into motor
control products. These Photocouplers are sampling now.
“Design engineers in North America who are in need of highly reliable and
cost-effective isolation devices now can rely on Sharp to provide them with an
even broader range of product offerings,” said David Kromer, Director of
Electronic Components Business Unit at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas.
“With the expansion of our product offering to include the S08 package, Sharp
provides a drop-in replacement for Photocoupler devices currently on the
market.”
The development of these new high speed Photocouplers reflect
Sharp’s long-standing commitment and track record in developing environmentally
sound products and following eco-friendly manufacturing process. The products
allow Sharp to offer an alternative, cost-competitive source for lead-free and
RoHS compliant devices.
Availability
Samples of the new SO8 product line are currently available, with production
quantities available beginning in Q4, 2005.
The SO8 devices join Sharp’s existing lines of high-speed Photocoupler
products that include 1Mbit/s, 2Mbit/s, 10Mbit/s,15Mbit/s in SOP 5-pin and DIP
8-pin packages; and 25Mbit/s in a DIP 8-pin package.
