Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas, a division of Sharp Electronics Corporation is seeking a Solar Product Development Engineer-Structural for our Huntington Beach, California facility.

Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for bringing new structures to market launch, beginning with concepts and including preparation of marketing requirements, establishing the value proposition, competitive benchmarking, prototyping and testing. Coordinates new product development programs with Sharp Japan and SMCA for DFM. Work with computer simulation as well as hands-on with prototypes and testing.

Job Responsibilities:
Goal Set:

• For each major market application, residential sloped roof, commercial flat roof and large array ground mount, benchmark 3rd party structures.
• Select partners for near term internal needs and qualify them.
• Establish Market Requirements for structures. Model structures/concepts to demonstrate design performance with a variety to modules. Build prototypes to validate concepts for new structures. 
• Collaborate with 3rd parties in the USA and other Sharp groups to develop new structures with unique high value propositions, within a stage gate product development framework. Contribute to development of unique grounding concepts.
• Communicate at least every 2 weeks with the structural development team in Japan, ensure that there is a clear understanding of market requirements and a competitive value proposition.

Position Specifications:

• Understand and incorporate code requirements.
• Demonstrate unique strengths/weaknesses of Sharp’s module vis a vis the structure, for each major module product category. Plan development w/ PROJECT to communicate/track the Plan.

Job Requirements:

• Advanced degree preferred- ME/CE
• 5-8 years experience
• Experience with design/analysis of structures under mechanical, thermal and wind loads. Ability to build prototypes based on 3-D models
• Some travel required
• Demonstrated record of self-motivated approach and being able to work in a team environment that is fast paced.
• Computer competencies-Office, Project, Visio, SolidWorks.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including group presentations.
• Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
