Sharp Microelectronics to Demonstrate System Solution at Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley 2006

WHO:  Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas, Camas, Wash., the U.S.-based microelectronics sales and marketing unit of Japan’s Sharp Corporation. Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas is also the global development center for Microcontroller and System-on-Chip products based on the popular ARM7 and ARM9 cores.

WHAT: Sharp Microelectronics will highlight its full system solution of tightly integrated components and software that offers customers a higher level of design and development support. Through this system, customers around the world are relying on Sharp as a single source for a product’s BoM as well as a partner for the product’s design and engineering. This relationship supports OEMs as they face increasing performance and time-to-market pressures.

Within Sharp’s system solution hardware package, the MCU serves as the foundation for the electronic component scheme. Sharp will demonstrate the newest enhancements to its BlueStreak(TM) line of ARM-based 16/32- and 32-bit microcontrollers and System-on-Chip devices for media-rich applications at the upcoming Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley in San Jose, April 4-6, 2006.

These exhibitions include:

  • A product roadmap for future MCU/SoC devices from Sharp as well as a preview demonstration of their performance capabilities.
  • Sharp’s system solution and comprehensive set of hardware, software and support resources. Through this combination of integrated software and hardware, media-rich devices can be designed as power efficient and easy-to-use with a high performance value, reduced bill of materials, and streamlined design cycle. Examples of designs incorporating its system solution will include multimedia Smart Toys and portable media devices.
  • Sharp MCUs or SoCs enhanced with video decompression software IP from Actimagine. Through collaboration with Actimagine, Sharp is able to increase video performance, allowing Sharp’s SoCs to now render four times more pixels at the same frame rate and quality.  Applications on display will include kiosks, digital signage, multimedia toys and portable media players.

In addition to this news, Sharp’s booth #1425, will also feature an array of consumer and industrial devices with Sharp SoC cores, including:

  • Raymarine Fishfinder
  • MonRoi Chess Tracker
  • AVID Wireless Shopping Cart Wireless Ads
  • Ceiva Picture Frame
  • Hasbro VuGo
  • Fisher-Price Pixter® Multi-Media
  • ESU Train Controller

Finally, Sharp will demonstrate its full line of BlueStreak ARM-based MCUs and SoCs, which provide embedded support in products ranging from entry level PDAs and smart toys to high-end mobile, industrial and entertainment applications. Software Development Kits for Sharp’s LH7A404 and LH79524 SoCs will also be available.

As a global organization, Sharp offers world-class development support to customers. Sharp’s devices are supported by an extensive repository of support tools, documentation, software, and operating systems, which make them applicable to a broad range of consumer and industrial products requiring interface to LCD panels. Sharp’s comprehensive customer support system includes third party design resources, software development kits, evaluation boards and reference designs.
